The robe is one of Dine's most recognizable subjects. He began painting them in 1964, titled or subtitling many of them "Self-Portrait." Associated with the Pop artists from the beginning, Dine appropriated common, everyday objects, like the robe, and focused on their associations with his life and his viewers. He also adopted a more painterly technique than other Pop artists, particularly evident in this example.
No apparent condition concerns - not exhibited out of the frame.
