Anton Fischer emigrated from Germany to the United States while yet a teen. Early in his career, Fischer was influenced and befriended by Howard Pyle and would become a successful artist-illustrator. During WWII he devoted his talents to posters, becoming the Artist Laureate of the U.S. Coast Guard.
