Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Circa 1820, oil on canvas (lined), unsigned, possibly depicting Alexander Slidell Mackenzie (b. 1803), brother-in-law to Commodore Matthew Perry. Presented in a later antique gilt composition frame.

SS 24 x 19.5 in.; DOA 32 x 29 in.

The Personal Collection of Mr. Philip H. Huggins, Fayetteville, North Carolina

Ex. Private Collection, Louisburg, NC

An early 20th century manuscript label en verso states "This is a portrait of Ronald Mckenzie brother of Marjorie Mackenzie uncle of Jane Slidell wife of Commodore Matthew C Perry." We are of the opinion that the author of this note erred with the identification of the sitter while sorting out the various personalities in the Mackenzie and Slidell families.

Minor craquelure with associated touch-up; overall very attractive condition and ready for display.
