Washington, D.C, 1870, presented in a deluxe embossed leather album with gilt titles on the cover and spine, gilt page edges, quarto (11.25 x 9 in.). A fairly comprehensive collection of over 275 signatures, highlights including those of President Grant, Vice-President Schuyler Colfax, six cabinet members (lacking the postmaster general), future president James A. Garfield, former Union general Benjamin Butler and Speaker of the House James G. Blaine of Maine. Interspersed among the signatures are several pages with small albumen photographs of Washington area landmarks tipped in. Of particular interest is one page having an image of Robert E. Lee's mansion surrounded by four photographs of headstones in the newly created Arlington National Cemetery.
