The plate and keeper still affixed to the leather with rivets in place; the cap box, circa 1862, embossed "C.S.STORMS / MAKER, N.Y." on underside of flap, brass finial and belt loops intact. Lot includes a period lead-filled wooden truncheon.

Verbal history claims provenance to a North Carolina farm in Sherman's 1865 line of march.
All brass elements enjoy a deep, untouched patina; leather crazed, but somewhat supple; the belt is split.
