Edo period (1615-1868), with a flat open spout characteristic of sake kettles, the lacquer lid is decorated with fall motifs of autumn grasses, crescent moon and grasshoppers, the iron base is decorated with the ivy mon and vine decoration, the handle has three holes and open slits and is hinged to the base in three places, three slight feet on the bottom of the kettle.
The ivy mon used here was used by the Matsudaira clan during the Edo period after their hollyhock symbol was claimed by the Tokugawa shogunate,
