A 1998 replacement value appraisal for insurance purposes by R. Nowell Creadick of the Hillmusic Violin Shop (now Chapel Hill Violins) reads, "Violin bow, stamped and in our opinion from the workshop of Gustave Bernadel, Paris, circa 1890. This bow is made of very fine pernambuco, mounted in ebony and Sterling silver. The condition is near mint, showing slight deterioration in the silver plating on the silk-braided winding."
