Circa 1840s - 1850s, leather construction with brass mounts, including 2nd Artillery insignia, the interior with linen sweatband and loose leather strip, manuscript name "Levi Oglesby" on pastedown.
This hat surfaced in a Newport, North Carolina estate.
Lacking cords; the leather still somewhat supple; splits with minor losses.
