Stecker's early childhood experiences with family, Jewish culture, and the surrounding religious and ethnic diversity of West Philadelphia, during the 1940s and 1950s, play a major role in his choice of imagery and message.

Stecker has had a successful career in film and television, while continuing to paint and in 2016 a solo exhibition of 42 paintings was mounted at the Jewish Educational Alliance in Savannah, GA.
