Oil on canvas, signed at lower left, the verso retaining a Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts paper label inscribed by Pittman and listing his address at 560 New Gulph Road in Bryn Mawr. The painting is presented in a House of Heydenryk hand-carved frame, specified by Hobson Pittman and framed by Theodor Siegel, Conservator and Technical Advisor at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 1963.

Accompanied by Ms. Boykin's correspondence regarding her purchase of this painting in 1998. "Musical Chairs" was illustrated on page 41 in The Poet's Palette: Selected Works by Hobson Pittman by Meade B. Horne, published in 1999 by the Blount-Bridgers House, Hobson Pittman Memorial Gallery Foundation Inc., Tarboro, NC. A copy of this book is included with the lot.
