Third quarter 18th century, both with walnut frame carved with reeding and stop-fluting, seat rail with carved corner blocks, velvet and brass tack upholstery, one chair (35 x 22.5 x 18 in.) signed "N. Blanchard" on underside (break and repair to right side front and rear legs); the second chair (34.5 x 22.5 x 18 in.) ( hairline to left arm at juncture with back).
N. Blanchard is referenced as a menuisier in "How to Know French Antiques" by Ruth Constantine, 1961, p.210.
Scattered nicks to frame; upholstery worn.
