Ernestine exhibited a similar painting, titled "Roman Shop," at Grand Central Moderns in 1950. In the exhibition catalogue, she spoke of finding the markets and shops in Italy "wonderfully beautiful and exciting," especially "the butcher shops...particularly fascinating and mighty Rome."
