Brass Hanging Globe Illuminator or Censer

Early 19th century, hinged hemispheres are thoroughly pierced to form an overall open surface of avian and floral forms with engraved details. The interior contains a small oil lamp secured within a three-ring gyroscope. When suspended, the ball can gently swing without overturning its lamp or incense burner.
