Published Antique Chinese Tester Bed
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Late 19th century, mahogany with bone and lighter wood inlays throughout, renderings include populated landscapes, floral sprays, animals and calligraphy. The four posts support an open canopy above a pierced apron carved with twisting dragon forms among clouds. The headboard and footboard each have two roundels extending from their sides towards the bed's interior. Raised on carved cabriole legs terminating in paw feet. This bed is from the estate of Aimee Crocker a.k.a. Princess Galitzine (1863 - 1941), a San Francisco heiress, socialite and passionate collector of Asian art. The bed is pictured in her autobiography AND I'D DO IT AGAIN (New York: Coward-McCann, Inc., 1936). The book is included with this lot.
