Oil on canvas, unsigned, an interior genre scene featuring a dejected young man in the center of the composition pointing to a copy of TOM JONES in his hand, while a young girl stands to his left and an elderly woman with tartan shawl stands above him. Housed in the likely original period gilt wood frame with applied ornament, an old typed label on verso reads "Painting / Family Group / Canvas 25 x 29 in., / Sir David Wilke (sic), R. A., Scottish / 1788-1841" and inscribed "Purchased Oct. 11, 1955" in pencil.
