The bronze cannon elaborately engraved and punched "L'Impetueux," on custom fitted field cart (7 x 15 x 7.25 in.); the caisson with metal fittings (6.5 x 15 x 8.5 in.). Both models would have been in use during the Napoleonic wars. The fact that the cannon is marked "L'Impetueux" may refer to a famous French ship which was involved in The Glorious First of June, which was the first and largest fleet action of the naval conflict between the Kingdom of Great Britain and the First French Republic during the French Revolutionary Wars.
