Silk, chennile, and watercolor on silk depicting young woman gathering barley in her apron, her face finely painted, likely a representation of the Biblical story of Ruth. Inscription on early paper backing reads, "Done by Ann King aged 13 1841 / at Mrs. Smiths school / BlackFriars Road Kings Lynn / Norfolk."
