Oil on panel, signed lower right "F. D. Briscoe," housed in the likely original gilt wood frame with composition ornament. Franklin Dullin Briscoe was born in Baltimore, Maryland but moved with his family to Philadelphia in 1848. Philadelphia proved a fertile ground for his early training, including studies with Thomas Moran.
