Oil on canvas, unsigned, presented in a later gilt frame retaining a gallery plaque reading "George W. Winner / William E. Winner / 1815-1883)."

The 1870 Philadelphia census lists a G. Wesley Winner, 20 years old, living with the portrait painter and his family. It also indicates that George was born in South Carolina. This portrait was likely completed circa 1855-1860 and depicts the composed young boy resting with his hoop.
