.58 caliber, 40 in. barrel secured by three bands, dated 1858 at breech with V / P over eagle's head on left side, the lockplate stamped U. S. / SPRINGFIELD with 1858 behind the hammer, the coverplate for the Maynard primer is stamped with an eagle device, the walnut stock with the initials "F S" neatly carved on the right side in front of the lockplate, brass nosecap, steel tulip head ramrod, retains bayonet with "U S" mark.
