Late Qing Dynasty or early Republican Period, fashioned from the lower section of a tusk, this work features a figural carving of a teamster's cart being stopped by a royal figure brandishing a ruyi scepter, the lower front is engraved with explanatory text composed of approximately 5,000 tiny characters, the tusk's back is engraved with a highly detailed mountainous landscape. Presented in a custom silk-lined glass case that includes a loupe for reading the story.
