No backmark, the verso affixed with a 2¢ revenue stamp manuscript cancelled with the date 8/23/64. This elusive portrait of Lincoln in his wartime prime was taken by Gardner on Sunday, August 9, 1863 in the photographer's new Washington, D.C. studio.
