19th century, mahogany, with brass mounts, hinged lid opens to reveal a fabric covered writing surface, both sides of the writing surface open to show a single compartment respectively, along one edge of interior is five smaller compartments, mounted brass pull in interior opens secret compartment below the writing surface interiors.
