Sold by W & J Sloane, Inc. of New York City on December 1, 1966 as an "Authentic Pre-Columbian sculpture" according to the sales receipt. Starting in the late 19th century, Sloane sold fine furniture, decorative arts, and accessories to New York's elite.

Examination under black light reveals a repaired break to the figure's lower right leg and some areas of paint touch-up on the chest and bowl; small glossy area of paint on figure's right temple. Overall very good estate condition.
