Late 19th century, Anglaise case, classical form with four Corinthian columns, the beveled glass top reveals an escapement, hinged handle above; the painted porcelain dial is marked JAS MUIRHEAD & SONS and painted with Roman numerals, blued steel hands indicate the time, both porcelain sides are painted with idealized courtship scenes; the back of the movement is numbered 893.

Much of the collection was inherited from Dr. Turner's parents, Royal Navy Captain and Mrs. John Schomberg Hammill and great-grandparents, Admiral Sir Montague Edward Browning and Lady Ruth Boldero Browning.
