August Rolle (D.C., 1875-1941), Two Paintings

Oil on canvas board, signed at lower right, inscribed on the verso Summer Day, Near St. Leonard Creek and with the estate stamp, presented in a later attractive gilt frame (SS 9 x 10 in., DOA 15 x 15.5 in.); the second an oil on canvas on board, signed at lower right, inscribed on the verso Old Houses / Harpers Ferry, sketch #31 / in Sketchbook #13-3, presented in the original plein air style frame by Harold Reed of Laguna Beach, CA (SS 7.5 x 9.5 in., DOA 15.5 x 17.5 in.).

The painting of Harpers Ferry was exhibited in The Capital Image: Painters in Washington 1800-1915 at the National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institution.

Some rubbing to frame by Reed; small dent to new frame; otherwise both in very good estate condition.
