Showa period (1926-89), circa 1935, album with thirty-two uncut prints, ink and colors on paper, prints are loose above a backing in accordion style between two hard cloth covers with title page, comes in a fitted paper box, the original series was published in 1888 by Tsunashima Kamekichi, the prints represent a chronological survey of Japanese women from 1789-1912 from different backgrounds and occupations, each associated with a particular mood or character trait, this version is a deluxe lithograph edition from 1935, deluxe lithograph sets were printed as lavish gifts and are not often found on the market today.

Very good color; some foxing to prints; separation and small tear on end pages decorated with hollyhocks.
