Serial number C 42552, .52 caliber, 29.5 in. round barrel marked NEW MODEL 1863 and SHARPS RIFLE / MANUFG. CO ./ HARTFORD, CONN., the receiver marked C. SHARPS' PAT. / SEPT. 12th 1848 on the left; the lockplate marked C. SHARPS' PAT. / OCT. 5th 1852 at rear and R. S. LAWRENCE PAT. / APRIL 12th 1859 behind hammer and a second Lawrence credit under the rear sight, RSL inspector's initials at breech; walnut stock with iron mounts and patchbox. With old leather sling, though unknown it this was issued with the rifle.
