C & B pi, the hinged cover with a finely painted and detailed enamel scene likely depicting Alcestis and Admetus in Hades, the enamel plaque within a gold oak leaf border and surrounded by a black and white enameled ground with inlaid acanthus scrollwork and chased trophies of weapons against a
sablé ground, the sides of the box continue the foliate and weaponry motifs, the underside centered with a fruit and flower still life in cobalt enamel.

Exceptionally fine craftsmanship in the manner of George Rémond & Compagnie of Geneva, this box likely dates to the early 19th century.
Two small areas of re-touch to the black enameling on the back edge of the box, below the hinge; two shallow scratches to the pictorial enamel on the cover (the scratches are difficult to discern without raking light); minor cracks to white enamel at top right of cover.
