Acquired by the consignor from a Baltimore collection.

According to the artist, this painting was featured in the second exhibition of African-American Life at Monticello. While quick to say he is not a historian, Mr. Gibbs says "my focus was on the land and the people that kept it up and their community. This painting shows the activity of washing clothes, their own clothes."

Very good estate condition.
