Molded in the manner of 19th century Pennsylvania redware lion, this earthenware work has a the surface decorated with streaks of manganese and white slip under a clear lead glaze, details include an open roaring mouth with applied lower fangs, a protruding tongue, curled tail, incised eyes, impressed on the bottom "BH / 59".
6.25 x 6.5 in.
The platform base has an inscribed border surrounding a central foliate branch. Unusual to find a Hussey lion with a base.
