Dated Showa 10 (1935), woodblock print, ink and colors on paper, signed on lower right hand side "Shiro" with red "Kasamatsu" seal, with a Watanabe 6mm seal on lower left corner, this print features the bright red gate erected in 1827 by Maeda Nariyasu to welcome Lady Yasu-hime from the Tokugawa shogunate family as his bride, it became the entrance to the Tokyo National University in 1903, later moved but still in existence, it has been designated a National Treasure and an Important Cultural Property, this print is presented loose.
10 3/8 x 15.5 in.
Acquired in Japan as a wedding presents in the late 1940s.
Very good condition and color; small tear in top margin outside of printed area; some toning to paper on backside.
