East Harwich, Massachusetts, early 20th century, carved two-piece construction with overall paint, inset glass eyes; the underside stamped with Crowell's oval cartouche and crudely carved with owner's initials "W H N." This bird was made for the Nickerson family of Cape Cod.

Elmer Crowell's decoys are highly regarded as masterpieces by collectors. In fact, a Crowell Canada goose sold privately for $1.13 million in 2007.
Paint losses and wear; several long drying cracks to the body, the most pronounced of which is on the underside. Good condition.
