Circa 1890, satin wood with mixed wood inlays, mahogany secondary, one part form, 'U' shaped cabinet with allover painted floral sprays, ribbon, portraits and musical vignettes, upper case with six central small drawers flanked by concave hinged cabinet doors and two drawers, central leather writing surface over three side by side drawers raised on tall tapered legs with brass casters.

This popular style of desk is named after a George Hepplewhite design for the Prince of Wales, whose London palace was named Carlton House, which existed from 1783-1825.

Original surface with expected minor paint loss; veneer chips, especially to concave door edges; scratches and loss to leather writing surface; no key; shrinkage crack to top right rear corner; break and looseness to bottom right molding at rear right corner.
