Private Collection, Outer Banks of North Carolina Carl Linnaeus, also known as Carl von Linné, was born in Sweden in 1707. He is regarded as the "Father of Taxonomy" and his classification system for plants and animals is still used today.
This sculpture was created by the Belgian born artist, Françoise Schein, in the 1990s in conjunction with a permanent art installation in Stockholm's Universitetet metro station near the Stockholm University and Museum of Natural History in honor of Linnaeus' Baltic travels and research.
