Born in Philadelphia, Fitler studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He was a member of numerous arts organizations including the Salmagundi Club, NY Watercolor Club, Kit-Kat Club, Brooklyn Art Associate, and other. Fitler exhibited frequently throughout his lifetime, including the National Academy, Art Institute of Chicago, Boston Art Club, and the Pennsylvania Academy.
