Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Being a postwar hand-painted print presented in a modern shadowbox wooden frame, the portrait's sitter was John Henry Shannon (1830-1879), who enlisted in the 14th Kentucky Cavalry for one year. This regiment performed in-state duty against local Confederate guerrillas operating in the eastern part of the state. Affixed to the portrait is a small 20th century medal commemorating the Civil War.
