.69 caliber, 44.5 in. round barrel secured with three bands and stamped with US, eagle/CT cartouche and a large V; the walnut stock with inspector's cartouche enclosing V/CW (?); the lockplate stamped with eagle over US. This gun appears to have the proper trigger guard for the Model 1808, however it is not fitted with a sling swivel.
The contractor for this War of 1812 musket remains unidentified. See page 550 of the 9th Edition of
Flayderman's Guide to Antique American Firearms for a brief discussion of these currently anonymous weapons.
Working action; light, scattered pitting to metal; nice age patina to the wood.
