From the Collection of Joe Rowand, Chapel Hill, NC Purim is a fun Jewish festival commemorating Esther saving the Jewish people from Haman, a Persian vizier that planned to kill all of the Jews in the kingdom. Purim is observed by exchanging gifts of food and drink, giving alms to the poor and eating a celebratory feast. Often masks and costumes are worn for parades and other public celebrations.
