According to a Sotheby's catalogue description, this painting was traditionally attributed to Giuliano Bugiardini. However, in a letter now lost, Laura Pagnotta suggests that based on photographs the present work relates more to several paintings by Fra Paolino da Pistoia.

Craquelure to surface; extensive insect damage to recto of panel; X-shaped wooden cleats to address vertical split of panel; areas of loss to gesso and paint; obscuring varnish visible under UV light with evidence of later retouch and restoration; some flaking to later frame.
