Second half 19th century, percussion, approximately 10 gauge, using a 40 5/8 in. round barrel with martial stamps that include US, eagle's head, P and V; additionally marked N. SWINERTON and mounted to a civilian walnut half stock, fitted with an engraved lockplate marked PARTRIDGE, brass trigger guard and brass buttplate; wooden ramrod secured by two iron pipes.
LOA 56.75 in.
The barrel was likely re-purposed from a .69 caliber musket.
Working action; dings to stock consistent with normal use; the barrel with a smooth age patina; some oxidized spots on the hammer; overall good estate condition.
