Accompanied by letters from Phillip Dennis Cate, organizer of The Circle of Toulouse-Lautrec: an exhibition of the work of the artist and his close associates (Zimmerli Art Museum, Rutgers University, 1985) and co-author and organizer of Toulouse-Lautrec and Montmartre (National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., 2005), and Gale B. Murray, author of Toulouse-Lautrec: The Formative Years, 1878-1891 (Oxford University Press, 1991), confirming the authenticity of these drawings. Mr. Cate also sought the expertise of Mr. Herbert D. Schimmel, a collector of Toulouse-Lautrec's drawings, who also agreed that they are by his hand.

The double-sided drawings are typical of sheets from Toulouse-Lautrec's notebooks of circa 1878-1882, many of which are illustrated and documented in M. G. Dortu's catalogue raisonné. The study of the bulls are similar to one documented and illustrated in Dortu, D. 2.317, and dated to 1881 (however the sheet sizes do not align).
