Margaret Covey studied at the Art Students League in New York and at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. She later studied at the
École des Beaux-Arts in Fontainebleu and at Yale. Primarily known as a portrait painter, she painted the mural for the Livingston, Tennessee post office as part of the WPA artist project during the Great Depression.
