A typed note affixed to the verso translates the inscription as follows:
"We, gathering at West Lake celebrate our dear friend, highly honored Sir Lo Gao Sin's birthday at the year of 24, month of July [characters not translated, perhaps year]. Zhong Huan, Yi Yang, Kay Ming, invited us: Zheng Zhi, Bang Jiang, Zi Gong, Chen Shou Min, to join the celebration and write on this fan at the west city of Runzhou."
