As a graduate student at Yale University, Melinda Blauvelt helped organize a retrospective exhibition of Walker Evans' photographs at the Yale Art Gallery in 1971. She was also an assistant professor of art at the University of Virginia and lectured at Smith Collage and Harvard University.

A talented photographer herself, a print of this photograph is in the collection of the Dallas Museum of Art.
