Commissioned and designed in 1987 to celebrate the millennium anniversary of Russian Orthodox Christianity, hand-cut crystal egg decorated in rich burgundy enamel and hand-painted with silver designs, the cover is surmounted by a vermeil dome and sterling silver Russian Orthodox cross, the egg opens to reveal a sterling silver recreation of St. Vladimir's Cathedral in Kiev (Birmingham, 1989 hallmarks), numbered 417 from an edition of 500, signed to the base.
