Second half 19th century, the lockplates stamped "Thos Tyrer" while "Richmond Va" in Gothic letters is stamped between the 31.75 in. barrels; walnut stock with faux checkering at shoulder; iron and German silver mounts; wooden ramrod.
From the Collection of a Virginia Gentleman Thomas Tyrer's shotguns are know to have been used by Virginia Confederates during the Civil War.
Shoulder with multiple fractures and likely detached from butt in the past, now with remnants of an old repair using glue and wood filler; working action; oxidation to ferrous metals as expected; professional restoration is possible
and advisable.
