Lot Details & Additional Photographs
The paper branched tree is festooned with a collection of several dozen Russian snow babies, circa 1900-1927, most dressed as children attired for cold weather, a rare Grandfather Frost ornament included, composed of cotton batting and spun cotton, as well as papier mache birds, a few German wood ornaments. The whole is a charming reminder of past Christmas festivities.
Tree 74 x 16 in.
From the Personal Collection of Bob Timberlake, Lexington, North Carolina Christmas was abolished in the Soviet Union in 1927, so most of these ornaments pre-date that time.
This tree was displayed year round in front of the fireplace at Bob Timberlake's Gallery.
Some ornaments have losses and discoloration but retain their appeal.
