Late 19th century or early 20th century, includes two Bugaku masks lacquered in red and black with gilt highlights of Kitoku (a victorious Hun King) and a guardian demon, and two Gyodo masks lacquered with black and gilt to the surface of Bodhisattvas, eyes on all with circular openings, demon with an open mouth, each with a signed paper label together with three red seals to interior, brown rope threaded through holes above ears on all.

Bugaku performances related to ritual music and dance associated with the court from ancient times. Gyodo ceremonies were more religious in nature, Buddhist priests would wear an Amida Buddha mask, welcoming the soul of dying believers into the Western Paradise. Disciples would wear Bodhisattva masks during the ceremony as part of the welcome.

Some flaking and loss to lacquer on Bodhisattva masks; demon mask with some slight loss to lacquer and a break with loss at top and crack in same area.
