Oil on mahogany panel, unsigned, faint illegible inscription to verso of panel, presented in a period gilt frame.

Although the majority of Thompson's portraits are larger scale and on canvas, he is known to have painted smaller format paintings on mahogany panels. One example is a portrait of Anne McClelland McCauley Walke Williamson of Norfolk, Virginia now in the collection of Colonial Williamsburg. Her portrait, a copy of a larger canvas portrait, is also painted on a mahogany panel measuring approximately 15 x 12.5 inches.

Later gold paint to frame; faint drying cracks to paint; small dark mark to right of sitter's nose; small paint flakes to ground at right of sitter's head; no evidence of retouch visible under UV light.
